1. A man is 31 years old and his son is 8 years old. In how many years will the father be three times as old as the son?

10 years. In 10 years, the man will be 45 years old and his son will be 15 years old, and the father will be three times as old as his son.



2. If you rearrange the letters "LNGEDNA" you get the name of a country. What is it?  

Germany. Rearranging the letters of "LNGEDNA" spells out "GERMANY".



3. A train travels 50 miles at a speed of 100 mph. How fast must it travel the next 50 miles to have an average speed of 75 mph for the entire trip? 

50 mph. To travel 100 miles at an average speed of 75 mph, the trip must take 4/3 hours. The first 50 miles took 1/2 hour (50/100), so the train must travel the next 50 miles in 2/3 hour (4/3 - 1/2). At 50 miles, it must travel at a speed of 50/2/3 = 75 mph.



4. If a plane crashes on the border of the United States and Mexico, where do they bury the survivors? 

Survivors are not buried.



5. How many times can you subtract the number 5 from 25? 

Once. After that, you are subtracting it from 20, then 15, and so on.



6. There are six eggs in a basket. Six people each take one egg. How can it be that one egg is left in the basket? 

The last person took the basket with the egg still inside.



7. A farmer has 17 sheep and all but nine die. How many are left? 

Nine sheep are left.



8. What number comes next in the sequence: 1, 3, 8, 20, 47, ?, 217? 

111. The pattern is adding 2, then 5, then 12, then 27, then 58, then 111, and so on.



9. What is the missing number in the sequence: 2, 5, 10, 17, ?, 37, 50? 

26. The pattern is adding 3, then 5, then 7, then 9, and so on.



10. A man is looking at a photograph of someone. His friend asks who it is. The man replies, "Brothers and sisters, I have none. But that man's father is my father's son." Who is in the photograph? 

The man in the photograph is the man who is speaking, not his son. The man says that the person in the photograph is the son of his father, which is himself.



11. What is the next letter in the sequence: O, T, T, F, F, S, S, E, ? 

N. The sequence follow the pattern of the first letter in the English words for the numbers one through nine: "O" for one, "T" for two, "T" for three, "F" for four, etc.



12. If you have three apples and you take away two, how many do you have? 

Two. You took away two apples, so you have two left.
